Road accidents: 38 dead, 1474 injured in one week

ALGIERS-Thirty-eight (38) people were killed and 1,474 injured in 1,226 road accidents across the country between April 28 and May 4, according to a weekly Civil Protection report.

The heaviest toll was recorded in the province of Algiers, with 5 deaths and 162 others injured, following 157 traffic accidents, the same source said.

In addition, Civil Protection units extinguished 737 urban, industrial and other fires, the most significant of which were recorded in the provinces of Algiers (104 fires), Oran (38) and Blida (36), said the source.

During the same period, 6241 interventions were carried out by Civil Protection personnel to rescue 358 people in danger, in addition to 5350 other assistance operations.[/ecr]
