Road accidents: 10 deaths, 488 injuries in one week

ALGIERS- Ten (10) people lost their lives and 488 others were injured in 389 road accidents that occurred in urban zones from 28 May to 3 June, the National Police said in a toll.

 [ecr]The toll showcased a rise in the number of accidents (+31), of injuries (+10) and a decrease in the number of deaths (-11) according to the figures recorded last week, said the same source.

 

The human factor remains the main cause of these accidents (+96%), especially because of the non-compliance with the road code and safety distance, the excess of speed, fatigue and lack of concentration, and the state of the car, said the source.

 

In this regard, The Directorate General of the National Police called road users to drive prudently and to comply with the road code, recalling the toll-free number 1548 and the emergency number 17, available to the citizens 24/24hours, for all reports.[/ecr]
