[ecr] On this occasion, Krikou showcased Algeria’s experience in the prevention and support provided to vulnerable groups, as well as the national solidarity mechanisms for family empowerment and child protection, notably in providing conducive schooling conditions, underlining the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on “assuring transport and catering in schools and distributing school bags to poor children.”
She also highlighted that “the solidarity mechanisms for family and children come in implementation of the article 65 of the 2020 constitution which has enshrined or the right to education,” adding that “Algeria has adopted the principle of free education, as schooling is compulsory in the primary and middle cycles, in order to guarantee equal education opportunities for children nationwide.”
On the occasion of World Day Against Child Labour, celebrated every 12 June, Krikou affirmed that “Algeria has implemented mechanisms and proactive and preventive measures to fight against this phenomenon,” emphasizing that her sector “is in charge of supervising the implementation of national policy on childhood protection through the different solidarity programs, activities and operations destined to impoverished families.”
She also added that local committees coming under the sector “organize awareness campaigns across the country to prevent social scourges, in collaboration with the concerned sectors and associations.”
The minister also pointed out “the efforts made by the sector for the economic empowerment of women so as to encourage them to adhere and contribute to the national production,” citing “available financing mechanisms for active women and housewives.”
For her part, the Secretary Executive of the ESCWA commended Algeria’s efforts and its pioneering experience in support of the society’s vulnerable and impoverished categories, in order to improve their situation and socioeconomic integration.[/ecr]
