DNRM, JICA ink cooperation agreement to boost earthquake resilience

ALGIERS — The National Delegation for Major Risks (DNRM) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a cooperation agreement, in Algiers, aimed at bolstering earthquake resilience capacities, allowing knowledge and expertise exchange between the two parties, the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities and National Planning said on Saturday in a press release.

The signing of this bilateral agreement, which was held at the headquarters of the National Delegation for Major Risks, is part of boosting international cooperation and the exchange of expertise in terms of major risk resilience between DNRM and JICA, the statement noted.

On this occasion, Abdelhamid Afra, the National Delegate for Major Risks, held talks with a delegation of JICA experts. Their discussions focused on developing and approving a strategy to enhance earthquake resilience in old buildings.

This key cooperation includes several establishments such as the Research Center in Astronomy, Astrophysics and Geophysics (CRAAG), the National Center for Applied Research in Earthquake Engineering (CGS), the National Center for Integrated Building Studies and Research (CNERIB) and the National Organization for Technical Control of Construction (CTC), the same source wrapped up.
