In a statement on Thursday, the communication manager at the Road Traffic Information and Coordination Center of the National Gendarmerie, Chief Sergeant Abdelhamid Amrani, said that the human factor remains the “main cause” of these accidents because of the non-compliance with the road code, underscoring that the drivers were behind 173 accidents, 24 of which were caused because of recklessness and 20 due to excessive speed in curves, while pedestrians were the cause of 14 accidents.
The heaviest toll was recorded in Ain Defla province (13 accidents), followed by Algiers (12 accidents), Tipaza (9 accidents) and Oran, Tebessa, setif with 8 accidents each, he added.
The report shows “an increase” in the number of deaths (+08) and injuries (+25) compared to the previous week, he said.
In this regard, Chief Sergeant Amrani called the road users to “respect the road code, the security distance, priority rules, traffic signals and priority rules, especially during the summer which consistently records higher accident rates.”[/ecr]
