“Algeria took over, today, during a videoconference meeting, the presidency of these two committees for one year, thus succeeding Tunisia, a brotherly country,” said the same source, noting that these two committees “are among the most important ones in the social affairs sector within the Arab League.”

“The Arab Family committee, which will hold its 14th session, develops projects, programs and plans to support the role of the family, collaborates with the concerned parties at the level of member countries for their implementation, monitors the implementation of the action plan related to families in the Arab region, under the sustainable development agenda, and supports national and regional activities related to the promotion of the Arab family,” said the press release.

The Arab Childhood Committee, which will hold its 28th  session, “ensures the follow-up of the implementation of the decisions of the League Council and the ministerial councils on childhood.”

This committee “also follows issues related to children's rights at the regional and international levels and international developments concerning childhood issues, ensuring that necessary adaptation measures are taken in the Arab region, works to unify and coordinate Arab efforts in this field in international forums, and monitors the implementation of the development agenda to invest in childhood in the Arab world by 2030 and the related executive plan, as part of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Important themes related to childhood and family issues in the Arab world will be discussed during the sessions of these two committees, in addition to a study on the constants of the Arab family in a changing world, to be submitted for consideration by Arab ministers in charge of Social Affairs at the next session, said the press release.[/ecr]
