World Theatre Day: Play “The Barber of Seville” presented in Algiers

ALGIERS- Minister of Culture and Arts Soraya Mouloudji chaired, on Wednesday evening at the Algerian National Theatre “Mahieddine Bachtarzi,” in Algiers, the ceremony celebrating the World Theatre Day, during which the play “The Barber of Seville” was presented at Annaba’s Regional Theatre Azzedine Medjoubi.

On this occasion, several artists and theatre-lovers attended the performance of the play “The Barber of Seville,” a production of the Regional Theatre of Annaba, staged by Habbal El Boukhari, and whose script is an adaptation of the French playwright Pierre Beaumarchais and translate by Saida Fassi.

“The Barber of Seville” won several prizes, including those of the jury and of the best music at the 16th National Professional Theatre Festival, as well as three other prizes at the 2nd Arab Theatre Days “Shaheed Hassan Belkheir" in Setif, including those of the best male performance and of the jury.

At the beginning of the ceremony, TNA’s director general Mohamed Yahiaoui read a message of the World Theatre Day, written this year by Norwegian dramatist Jon Fosse, winner of the 2023’s Nobel Prize for Literature, entitled “Art is peace.”
