Over 4 million visitors at 27th SILA

ALGIERS- The 27th International Book Fair, held from 6 to 16 November in Algiers at the Pins Maritimes Exposition Palace (Safex), was marked by the presence of “more than 4 million visitors,” said on Sunday the fair’s commissioner, Mohamed Iguerb.

[ecr] The 27th International Book Fair of Algiers witnessed "a record figure" of "4.3 million visitors, with a peak (863,000 visitors) on Friday, November 15," said Iguerb, noting that this event was marked by an unprecedented influx of readers from the very first day of the fair.

Various stands, conference halls, and book-signing sessions welcomed a passionate audience of readers from across the country.

Organized under the high patronage of President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the sponsorship of Minister of Culture and Arts, Soraya Mouloudji, the fair was held under the slogan "Read to Triumph," he said. 

"The event coincided with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious November Revolution," he added. 

Iguerb said that important conferences and meetings were organized as part of this event, with the participation of prominent personalities from various Arab and foreign countries who shared their insights on works and writings about the history of the Algerian Revolution.

The commissioner further highlighted that the ten-day fair, which concluded on Saturday, was marked by the awarding of the "My First Book" prize and the announcement of the "Best Stand" prize, which was awarded to the State of Qatar.

The event was also marked by the presence of various personalities, including Mouloudji and an official delegation from the Council of the Nation and the People's National Assembly (APN), the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Algeria, as well as a host of Algerian writers and intellectuals, he added.[/ecr]
