Young people, students should be involved in decisions affecting them

ALGIERS- The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said Sunday in Algiers that no decision on young people and students would be taken without consulting them beforehand and without the approval of the High Council of Youth.

In an address to the students of the Abdelhafid Ihaddadene scientific and technological hub of the new city of Sidi Abdellah, on the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the National Student Day, the president of the Republic said "no decision on young people and students would be taken without consulting them beforehand and without the approval of the High Council of Youth," adding that he would personally make sure the guidelines are respected.

In reply to questions by many students, the president of the Republic said "several issues interesting students and the university will be reviewed together with the university family, including students, teachers and student organizations."

"The era when the Administration imposes its decisions on researchers and students is over."

The president of the Republic said important resources were made available to students, through the students' welfare office, adding that excellence in higher education and scientific research "is important" and "success requires specific incentives."

In this respect, the president of the Republic gave instructions to the minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to work, together with the sector's institutions, for the "the establishment of incentives for some scientific specialties and the increase in grants to the relevant students."

The president of the Republic commended "the presence of eminent Algerian researchers in several countries," stressing that their success reflected the level of training in Algerian universities.
