“In line with the objective of comprehensive digitization and following the directives of the President of the Republic concerning the generalization of fiber optic technology, the action plan successfully connected 1.5 million households to the fiber optic to the home (FTTH),” the same source said.

This progress marks a significant upward trend in the total number of households benefiting from this modern technology, the statement said

The ministry noted that the number of connected households has grown from 53,000 households at the start of 2020 to one million in November 2023, and now exceeds 1.5 million households nationwide as of early October 2024.

“Along with this quantitative increase, there is a qualitative improvement in the available internet speeds for subscribers,” the statement said.

According to the same source, Algérie Télécom has launched promotional offers for those interested in high-speed connections, with speeds up to 1 Gigabit per second available on request.

The ministry further said that the program to generalize fiber-optic technology to homes is ongoing, focusing on connecting households that still lack fixed internet access, especially in new residential areas and urban centers.
