The presentation was made during a plenary session dedicated to presenting and debating the draft law, chaired by the Assembly's vice-president, Zouhaier Nasri, in the presence of the Minister of Relations with Parliament, Basma Azouar.

During the past years, Algeria has adopted a national strategy for the protection of the environment, which includes various sectors and fields and focuses on multiple key areas, including waste management, highlighted Dahleb.

Waste management in Algeria has always been the concern of public authorities and a challenge for local authorities, particularly regarding the management of household and similar waste, she added.

The minister described the new draft law on waste management, control and disposal as a “decisive step” towards improving the waste management system in Algeria to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly through the integration of circular economy principles.
