Baddari supervises launch of first Algerian computer operating system

SAIDA-The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamel Baddari, supervised Tuesday at Doctor Moulay Tahar University of Saïda, the launch of the first Algerian computer operating system, a “Linux distribution” based on free and open-source software.

In his speech, the minister stated that this 100% Algerian system is the result of efforts by students and university researchers specialized in software development, representing various higher education institutions across the country.

“The creation of this Algerian Linux distribution, which combines ease of use and security, will help improve the performance of our computer operating systems, particularly by securing our information systems,” he explained.

Baddari added that this operating system, which allows “establishing an open technological economy in Algeria,” constitutes a “foundation that will enable the creation of numerous start-ups in the software field.”

In this respect, he praised the efforts of Doctor Moulay Tahar University of Saïda, describing it as a “model” in terms of progress, science and innovation.[/ecr]
