Speaking at a workshop on digitization and Artificial intelligence, held as part of the Parliamentary section of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2024), Sifer underlined the importance of Algeria's efforts for the development of the digital infrastructure and technologies relating to artificial intelligence.
Algeria "has launched a digitization and innovation process, by taking advantage of the experiences of other countries, to develop its local capabilities," he said, mentioning "the infrastructures put in place to boost digital connectivity throughout the country."
The MP added that the Algerian Parliament "is constantly working to ensure a legislative and regulatory framework conducive to digitisation," citing, for instance, the bill on auto-entrepreneur.
After pointing out that the Algerian legislation was being adapted to artificial intelligence, Sifer mentioned the law on cybercrime promulgated in Algeria.
He added that "the legislative framework governing digital technology in Algeria promotes the digital economy and paves the way for a genuine economic take-off in the field of technology and artificial intelligence."
