By Salman Al-Mutairi, Omar Al-Loughani KUWAIT, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- The State of Kuwait is considered a pioneer in special needs care, backing such support with a legislative system geared towards this important sector of society.
Law 8/2010 concerning the rights of people with special needs is a national legislative landmark due to it securing various service and guarantees within the education, health, work, and social care domains.
Kuwait also empowered people with special needs via touting policies that were in line with international human rights laws for people with disability.
On this issue, Minister of Social Affairs, Family, and Childhood Affairs, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailah told KUNA that Kuwait would be marking today WHO's International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which would held under the theme "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." She touted on this occasion, the accomplishments of the Public Authority for Disability Affairs (PADA) this year, saying that it reflected the state of Kuwait's interest in backing up people with special needs.
PADA serves the needs of 68,000 beneficiaries and continues to sign accords with national organizations and government institutes to better circumstances with this sector of society.
She indicated that the authority had updated the "Kuwait code" to improve the urban environment for people with special needs for better public services and utilities.
She also pointed to the sixth 2024-25 session of the "partners for their employment" initiative, saying that some 123 members benefited from this venture to enable people with special needs to be employed and join the job market. (end) slm.ays.gta
