ISLAMABAD, Dec 3 (KUNA) -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar signed a charter of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Clean Energy Center at the 28th Council of Ministers meeting in Iran on Tuesday.
According to a press release by Pakistan Foreign Office, the charter aims at providing clean and sustainable energy to the ECO region.
While addressing the ceremony, the minister emphasized on the promotion of intra-regional trade and connectivity and establishing integrated markets and production facilities in the ECO region.
He acknowledged the efforts contributed by Iran as ECO chair for the year 2023 and Azerbaijan as the ECO chair for the year 2024 respectively.
Drawing attention of the ECO leaders towards the pressing regional economical issues, he highlighted the promotion of intra-regional trade and connectivity and establishing integrated markets and production facilities in the ECO region.
He pointed out the ECO's initiatives and possible strategies underlining regional cooperation to tackle the regional issues through mutual support, such as development of business to business contacts, tourism related trade and visa regimes, cooperation in energy sector, sustainable and green economies etc.
Earlier, Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Aragchi said that Pakistan is one of the formative members of ECO in addition to Iran and Turkiye that was formed in 1985 from the regional cooperation for development.
"Pakistan strongly commends the principles of ECO which aims at promotion of trade and connectivity through mutual cooperation," he added. (end) sbk.mb
