KUWAIT, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for Kuwait and the Gulf States on Thursday declared planting 125 trees in collaboration with the British embassy and Kuwait Oil Company, marking the 125th anniversary of the Kuwaiti-British ties.
The head of the mission, Dr. Ameera Al-Hassan, said in a statement during the ceremony, attended by the assistant foreign minister for Europe affairs, the minister plenipotentiary Mohammad Hayati, that this symbolic event is a step on the path of "boosting environmental stability and greening public spaces and contributing to attaining neutral carbon." The campaign, she said, aims at shedding light on the necessity of using local plants in the greening projects to boost biodiversity, in tandem with Kuwait neo development vision 2025 and tackling impact of the climatic changes.
For her part, the British ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis, said the holding of this event is a wonderful way to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Kuwait-UK partnership.
Mohammad Abduljelil, the deputy CEO at the KOC, affirmed commitment to back up the environment through such innovative programs. (end) mrf.rk
