RIYADH, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi on Sunday vehemently condemned an attack on the Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital in Al-Fasher, the capital city of North Darfur, which claimed multiple casualties.
In a press statement, Al-Budaiwi said the attack marks a flagrant and serious breach of international laws and treaties as well as UN resolutions pertinent to the protection of civilians and civilian installations, including health facilities.
The GCC chief called for providing utter protection to medical teams and health facilities in Sudan in order to enable them to do their humanitarian duties, particularly amid the tough circumstances the Sudanese people are underjoining.
He also underlined the significance of respecting international and humanitarian laws and bringing to accountability those involved in such violations that jeopardize innocents' lives and impede humanitarian efforts.
Some 70 people were reportedly killed and dozens injured in an attack on the Saudi Teaching Maternal Hospital in Al-Fasher City on Saturday. (end) kns.mt
