BEIRUT, Jan 26 (KUNA) -- Twenty two people from southern Lebanon were killed and 124 injured by Israeli occupation fire, Lebanese Emergency Operations Center said Sunday.
Quoted by Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), the Emergency Center released a statement saying that the attacks by the Israeli forces took place during the attempted return of Lebanese citizens to their towns, according to an updated toll, the death toll increased to 22 dead and 124 others injured and were transferred to nearby hospitals.
The United Nations and its peacekeeping forces (UNIFIL) had earlier warned the residents of the towns of southern Lebanon against returning to their homes, describing the situation in southern Lebanon as "not yet ready for a safe return" to the villages located along the Blue Line border.
Last night, the Lebanese Army Command called on residents to wait before heading towards the southern border areas.
Earlier, Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati called on all countries that sponsored the ceasefire agreement with Israeli occupation to bear their responsibilities and stop the aggression. (Pickup previous) fz.mb
