MUNICH, Feb 14 (KUNA) -- Chair of Munich Security Conference Christoph Heusgen said on Friday that there would neither be direct nor official talks between US and Russian officials on the war in Ukraine during the conference's activities.
Heusgen made this remark ahead of the 61st session of the conference, adding that the congress, the first in its kind, did not have registration from the Russian government representatives.
He added that entering the conference is not allowed without registering required paper, noting the German government said it would not give any visas to the Russian government delegations.
This came after US President Donald Trump's remark on Thursday that senior officials from the US, Ukraine and Russia would hold talks in Munich on Friday on the means of ending the Ukrainian war.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock warned, before partaking in the conference, against a "shame peace" in Ukraine.
She called for a sustainable peaceful solution that ensures Ukraine's sovereignty and that Russian President Vladimir Putin will never again jeopardize security in Europe.
Baerbock underlined the necessity of offering long-term strict guarantees for Ukraine and making progress in terms of Ukraine's membership in tiofhe European Union The 61st session of the congress is set to kick off some hours after German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier delivers his speech at the conference, in the attendance of dozens of heads of state, premiers, foreign ministers and international organizations, including the UN.
