WASHINGTON, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- President Donald Trump said, late Sunday, that his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "wants" to end the war with the Ukraine, a statement coming days before US-Russian negotiations in Riyadh to end the three-year conflict.
Speaking to the press, Trump -- referring to his phone conversation with Putin last week, expressed his opinion that the Russian leader was eager to end the fighting.
Whether Putin had regional ambitions beyond the Ukraine, Trump said that he thought Putin was eager to stop; however, it would be a problem if the Russian leader had such plans and it would be stopped by the US.
President Trump affirmed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had similar intentions to end the dreary situation.
The US, during the Biden administration, and allies had imposed economic sanctions on Moscow in the past three years due to its actions in the Ukraine. (end) amm.gta
