BEIRUT, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- Lebanon announced extending the suspension of flights between Beirut and Tehran until further notice, Monday.
This came in a meeting by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, to discuss recent events on the Rafic Hariri International Airport road, saying that, "strict" instructions were given to military and security forces not to close the airport road and to preserve public property.
Aoun pointed out that Foreign Minister Youssef Raji was tasked with following up on diplomatic contacts to address the issue of air travel between Tehran and Beirut, and to secure the return of Lebanese passengers still in Iran.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese Cabinet affirmed the liberation of all Lebanese territory and the commitment to implementing UN Resolution 1701, and the monopoly of weapons in the hands of the state.
Lebanese Information Minister Dr. Paul Morcos quoted the President, stressing the protection of peaceful demonstration without encroachment and blocking roads.
A number of protestors earlier blocked the road leading to Rafic Hariri International Airport and set fire to tires belonging to the United Nation Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). (end)
