RIYADH, Feb 18 (KUNA) -- The US-Russian talks held in Riyadh on Tuesday is part of the Kingdom's efforts to enhance global security and peace, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Affairs Ministry said Tuesday.
A ministry statement said that the talks, chaired by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, were held at Diriyah Palace in the presence of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The statement added that the talks confirm the Kingdom's belief that dialogue is the only way to resolve all international crises and aim to bring the two parties' views closer together to establish international security and peace.
Meanwhile, a statement published by the Kremlin noted that Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said the talks were fruitful, as they discussed the core issues between the two countries.
Ushakov added that holding a meeting between President Putin and President Trump next week is unlikely, stressing the need to intensify work before the two presidents can meet.
He explained that Moscow and Washington will work to create the appropriate conditions for the meeting in the future, although the positions of the two countries are still far from complete convergence.
He explained that the two parties agreed on the need to strengthen bilateral relations, adding that the two delegations have defined their basic orientations regarding the Ukrainian crisis and will begin to conduct contacts on the issue at the appropriate time, stressing that President Putin is the one who will decide when these contacts will begin.
Ushakov pointed out that the files were seriously discussed during the talks in Riyadh, where the two sides agreed on the need to take each other's future interests into account.
He added that the Russian delegation in Riyadh will have a program that includes the "Saudi track". (pickup previous) kns.dan.ao
