MADRID, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- Regional Director of United Nations World Tourism Organization, Basmah Al-Mayman, stated that Kuwait's win of regional committee's presidency makes it a decision-maker in field of global tourism.
Al-Mayman made this comment to KUNA on Tuesday congratulating Kuwait on the win, extending her congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti government and people on the national holidays as she was attending the embassy's celebrations.
Kuwait is a co-founder of the organization and has the confidence of Middle Eastern nations, remarked Al-Mayman taking note of Kuwait's leaping efforts in the tourism sector.
She had visited Kuwait twice and looked over developmental plans relating to sector. Al-Mayman pointed to the spectacular organization of Khaleeji Zain 26, the gulf football tournament, as it reflected positively on all touristic enterprises, with hotel reservations reached 99 percent capacity.
Kuwait, represented by Minister of Information and Culture and State Minister for Youth Affairs, Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, was voted president by acclamation at the 51st meeting of the regional committee held in Doha last week.
Minister Al-Mutairi had affirmed in his speech the necessity of putting in place innovative plans and initiatives to boost tourism.
Al-Mayman is the first Gulf personality to achieve an official position at the UN tourism organization. (end) hnd.aai
