WASHINGTON, 19 Feb (KUNA) -- US President Donald Trump signed an executive memorandum to promote transparency in government institutions and combat wasteful public spending amid efforts to expose financial corruption and optimize federal expenditures.
In a statement by the White House, it stated that the memorandum demands transparency regarding excessive taxpayer spending by the federal government, instructing all agencies to disclose details on discontinued programs, canceled contracts, and terminated grants.
The memo emphasized putting an end to wasteful spending criticizing the US government for squandering taxpayer funds on programs and contacts that "do not serve the American public's interests".
It claimed that the money had been used for "ideological projects overseas and domestic organizations engaged in actions that undermine the national interest".
"President Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has already recovered USD 1.9 billion in taxpayer funds "misplaced" by the Biden", the statement added A report from the office estimated that the federal government could lose between USD 233 billon and USD 521 billion annually due to fraud, waste, and financial corruption. Trump pledged in his Wisconsin speech to "Drain the Swamp" and eliminate wasteful spending, and establishing the Government Accountability Office to improve responsibility and ensure taxpayer funds are spent wisely.
