MADRID, Feb 19 (KUNA) -- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and visiting Egyptian President Abdulfattah Al-Sisi stated on Wednesday firm opposition to attempts aiming to evict the Palestinian people forcibly from their homeland.
Spain and Egypt share same view against displacement of the Palestinians who stick by their homeland, according to a joint statement issued by both leaders at the end of their talks at the Presidential Palace of La Moncloa in Madrid.
Spain fully supports whatever decisions the upcoming Arab Summit might take on the reconstruction of Gaza Strip and the Palestinians' right to their own homeland, the statement said.
President Al-Sisi appreciated Spain's fair and brave decision on recognition of Palestine as an independent state and the Palestinians' right to statehood as per the relevant UN resolutions.
Both sides stressed the urgency of reviving the Middle East peace process on the basis of the two-state solution, implementing the agreement on ceasefire in Gaza fully, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance, and speeding up the reconstruction of Gaza.
They urged supporting the international aid agencies, particularly the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) which given the indispensable role it play in providing essential services to the Palestinian people.
Both sides discussed the friendly relations besides other regional issues, including the situations in Syria and Lebanon and the attacks on vessels in the southern part of the Red Sea. President Al-Sisi, on his second state visit to Spain, is scheduled to meet King Felipe VI later today. (end) hnd.gb
