KUWAIT, Feb 19 (KUNA) - The Kuwait Writers Association on Wednesday launched its contest in the fields of poetry, novels, and short stories in order to raise the levels of literary works to an international scale.
The contest sponsor Sheikha Afrah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah said during a press briefing that what is distinctive of this contest is that it coincides with the national days and Kuwait's celebration of the "Kuwait Capital of Arab Culture and Media 2025".
She added these awards are meant to help encourage the progressions in the quality and value of Kuwaiti literary works and seek to strengthen Kuwait writers association on the Arab and international cultural scene.
Secretary-General of the Kuwaiti Writers Association, Hmaidi Al-Mutairi said "the ceremony aims to raise the literary and artistic heights of our literary works and standards in Kuwait in order to reach world-class levels".
In order to apply for the contest one must have a valid membership at Kuwait Writers Association and that no more than three years have passed since the publication of his works, written in classical Arabic.
The contest categories are Best Kuwaiti novel, Best Kuwaiti collection of poetry, best theatrical text, Best children's story, Best short story, and the Best critical article dealing with a Kuwaiti literary work.
Established in 1964, Kuwait Writers Association consisted of poets, story writers, and novelists, and aims to foster the intellectual movement and literary renaissance in Kuwait and the trend in literature to serve the Arab community and to develop national and patriotic awareness. (end) asa.aq
