KUWAIT, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi inked a memorandum of understanding with Gustave Roussy, a European cancer research hospital located in Paris, on Thursday.
The MoU falls in the framework of the Ministry's efforts to upgrade the healthcare system and promote partnerships with prestigious international medical institutions, he said after signing the document.
"The Ministry spares no effort in caring for patients and securing a quantum leap in cancer treatment in keeping with the world's latest standards," the minister pointed out.
Commending Gustave Roussy as the largest facility in Europe dedicated to oncology, Dr. Al-Awadhi said cooperation with this institute will help build the capacity of the medical cadres in Kuwait and provide more advanced options in treating cancer and tumors.
On his part, the Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Overseas Health Services Dr. Hashem Klinder said the MoU focuses on specialized medical consultancy, training courses and fellowships, exchange of experiences and enhancement of digital managements of medical facilities.
The MoU adds to 50 years of the Ministry's national efforts and cooperation with international institutions to combat cancer, he added, citing the establishment of the Kuwait center for combatting cancer in 1968 and the national register of cancer patients in 1971.
The document was signed, on behalf of Gustave Roussy, by Director General Fabrice Barlesi. (end)
