ISLAMABAD, Feb 21 (KUNA) -- At least six militants were killed by the security forces in an intelligence-based operation in Karak district in Pakistan's northern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) bordering Afghanistan.
During the operation, the security forces effectively engaged the militants' location, a press release by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday
A sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other militant found in the area as the security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country, said ISPR.
President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have commended the security forces for killing six militants in Karak.
In their separate messages, they reiterated their resolve to continue the fight against the menace of terrorism until its complete eradication from the country.
The President said the entire nation is united against terrorism and stands alongside their security forces.
The premier vowed to foil the nefarious designs of the enemy of humanity, adding that the sacrifices rendered by the son of soils will not be wasted in the war on terror.
On Tuesday, Pakistan military confirmed that at least 30 militants were killed in a security operation in South Waziristan tribal district of KPK.
The operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end)
