Despite Israeli aggression, Lebanon made key cultural accomplishments in '24

BEIRUT, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- Despite the Israeli occupation forces' aggression in the first half of 2024, Lebanon witnessed outstanding cultural activities topped with "Tripoli is the capital of Arab culture for 2024.
Fully prepared by Lebanon's Ministry of Culture and society, the event came upon a recommendation from the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
Tripoli, at that time, had been a destination to all guests and visitors from all over the world, in the presence of former premier Najib Mikati, former culture minister Mohammad Mortada, ALECSO chief Mohamed Ould Omar and a number of Arab culture ministers, ambassadors and diplomatic delegations.
Al Fayhaa City was characterized by some theatrical, literary, urban, and heritage activities, which formed a kind of mosaic of cultural movement, and others
Mekati said the launch of "Tripoli is the capital of Arab culture for 2024" event was an outstanding Arab scene nationwide.
Mortada said Tripoli has unlimited capabilities that would help the city restore its full location on the sustainable development map, thanks to its economic and cultural facilities and potential.
The Ministry of Culture has made achievements on the sidelines of preparing and organizing the event like inserting some of temples on the local list within the framework of the central cultural development.
The move also included the start of a project of rehabilitating the archaeological site discovered in Batroun on the seafront adjacent to the Phoenician Wall, a grant from Japan, and signing some protocols with some societies and cultural institutions.
In addition, the activities contained following the 13 shipwrecks sunk in the Lebanese Sea that have valuable antiquities, dating back to the period between the Hellenistic and Ottoman eras, submerged in the exclusive economic zone opposite Lebanon.
All these outstanding steps were made while the Israeli occupation forces were launching a war against Lebanon, which has been suffering unprecedented aggravation of economy. (end)
