NEW YORK, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Tareq Al-Bannai expressed his deepest condolences to Namibia, over the death of former president Sam Nujoma.
In a speech on the behalf of the Arab Group, during Nujoma's funeral in the UN's headquarters in New York late Friday, Al-Bannai said that we are gathered here today to honor the former president's legacy and historic achievements.
Nujoma's achievements went beyond Namibia, across the African continent, especially his efforts to achieve independence for his country in 1990, he said.
The former president was also known internationally for his fierce fight for peace and equality, as well his strong cooperation with the UN to resolve conflicts peacefully, Al-Bannai noted. (end)
