CAIRO, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- President of the Arab Parliament (the legislative arm of the Arab League) Mohammad Al-Yamahi said the parliament adopted a document in support of the Palestinian people which will be presented to the extraordinary Arab Summit, due in Cairo in early March.
The Arab Parliament fully supports the Palestinians who remained steadfast in defense of their homeland against the hostile designs aiming to evict them from their homes or annex their land, he said in a speech to the seventh conference of the parliament and speakers of the Arab parliaments.
The conference, hosted by the Arab League, is being held in collaboration with the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Al-Yamahi reaffirmed support to the Egyptian efforts aiming to work out a comprehensive vision for the post-conflict reconstruction of Gaza Strip and protect the Palestinians' legitimate right to live in security on their land.
He noted that the current conference coincided with unprecedented challenges facing the Palestine cause which continues to be a central question for all Arab countries since 1967.
He denounced "the malicious designs" aiming to evict the Palestinian people from their homeland and liquidate the Palestine cause. "Those malignant designs are totally unacceptable not only to the Palestinians and the Arabs but to every free person who believes in the values of liberty and patriotism as well. "They constitute a flagrant violation of the inalienable UN-recognized rights of the Palestinian people and a serious infringement on the sovereignty of an Arab country," he stressed.
Al-Yamahi urged the international community to shoulder their legal and moral responsibilities for "ensuring durable halt to the Israeli occupation aggression, bringing the Zionist war criminals to justice and ending the Israeli occupation of the Arab land in Palestine, Syria and Lebanon." Earlier today, chief parliamentarians from the Arab countries held a consultative meeting in camera to discuss and endorse the blueprint of the pro-Palestine document as a prelude to tabling it to the planned Arab leaders' summit.
