KUWAIT, Feb 22 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Veterans Football Championship was officially inaugurated by Minister of Information and Culture and Minister State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi on Saturday.
In his opening speech, Al-Mutairi warmly welcomed the participating delegations in the country of friendship and peace.
The opening ceremony featured a performance by singer Hamoud Al-Khadher and an entertaining drone show for the attendees.
Before the ceremony, two matches were held in the second group: Iraq claimed a narrow victory over Yemen with a score of 1-0, while Saudi Arabia and Bahrain ended their match in a goalless draw.
The tournament is being held at Jaber Al-Mubarak Stadium in Al-Sulaibikhat Club, featuring eight teams divided into two groups.
Group A comprises Kuwait, Qatar, the Emirates, and Oman, while Group B includes Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Bahrain, and Yemen. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals. The tournament will continue until next Wednesday. (end)
