ISLAMABAD, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- At least seven militants were killed in two separate operations in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan, said the military on Sunday.
According to a press release by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), an intelligence-based operation was conducted by security forces, on reported presence of militants in Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district in KPK.
During the conduct of the operation, the security forces effectively engaged the militants' location, killing four of them. ISPR further said that another encounter that took place in the Maddi area of the district, at least three militants were effectively neutralized.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the militants, who remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities in the area. Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any other militant found in the area.
"The security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country," ISPR concluded.
Last Friday, at least six militants were killed by the security forces in an operation in Karak district of KPK.
The operations come at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror attacks especially in KPK and Balochistan provinces bordering Afghanistan. (end) sbk.mb
