RAMALLAH, Feb 24 (KUNA) - Israeli occupation forces continue to escalate detention operations and field investigations, specifically in the Jenin and Tulkarm governorates, since the beginning of the current aggression.
In a press statement, Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) affirmed that within the framework of the occupation's announcement of expanding its military aggression in the northern governorates, the number of detention operations in the Jenin and Tulkarm governorates reached about 365, according to Palestinians News and Info Agency (WAFA).
PPS explained that the number of detainees and those who were detained in Jenin and its camp over 35 days of aggression reached 200 cases, while in Tulkarm governorate on the 29th day, the detainees reached at least 165, in addition to dozens who were subjected to field investigation.
The ongoing and escalating detentions are accompanied by field executions, direct shooting, or threats, severe beatings and field investigations, PPS added, noting the occupation forces turned the homes into military points, deployed snipers on rooftops, in addition to the deliberate destruction of infrastructure.
The statement indicated that the occupation has arrested about 14,500 Palestinians from the West Bank since October 2023, in addition to arresting thousands from Gaza.
The occupation released 1,135 Palestinian prisoners in 6 batches in exchange for Israeli prisoners, and backed away from releasing the seventh batch that was scheduled last Saturday. (end)
