NEW YORK, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called for ending the Israeli occupation's military operations against the northern West Bank, said a spokesman on Monday.
In a press statement, UN Secretary General's spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that Guterres was "deeply concerned by the increasing number of fatalities, including children, and the mounting number of displaced Palestinians, and a broadening scope of civilian infrastructure destruction."
He added that the UN chief was "appalled that children continue to be victim of violence," adding that Guterres "firmly rejects statements by Israeli officials indicating the intention to remain in some northern occupied West Bank area for extended period and to refuse the return of displaced Palestinians to their homes."
The Israeli occupation forces continued its barbaric assault on Jenin and Tulkarm in the West Bank Monday.
This is the first time the occupation forces has sent tanks to Jenin since 2002, expanding its violent assault to include the nearby town of Qabatiya. (end)
