CAIRO, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov addressed by phone on Thursday the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Syria.
During the phone conversation, they mainly looked into the regional developments and ongoing preparations and arrangements for the planned Arab summit due in Cairo on March as well as Egyptian efforts to shore up the Gaza ceasefire deal, the Foreign Ministry's Spokesman Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said in a press statement.
They also considered an Egyptian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza with the remaining of its population in the territory, with the Egyptian foreign minister underlining his country's opposition to the displacement of Gazans, while supporting a permanent fair solution to the Palestinian cause.
Regarding Syria, Abdelatty restated Cairo's position based on backing the Syrian State and respecting its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
On Egyptian-Russian relations, the minister lauded bilateral cooperation in various areas, mainly a Russian-developed Egyptian nuclear plant, a Russian industrial zone project in Egypt, and joint cooperation covering oil, gas, tourism and aviation. (end)
