CAIRO, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized the importance of commencing the reconstruction of Gaza Strip without displacing the Palestinians from their homes.
During a phone conversation initiated by Prime Minister Meloni, they called on the international community to fulfill its responsibility to protect the Palestinian people, according to spokesman of the Egyptian presidency Mohammad El-Shennawy.
Both sides urged supporting their efforts to establish an independent state of Palestine within the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, El-Shennawy said, citing readout of the call.
During the conversation, both sides exchanged views on regional developments with Meloni expressing her interest in President El-Sisi's perspective for pursuing the implementation of Gaza ceasefire deal, facilitating the exchange of prisoners and hostages, and ensuring the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
On the bilateral ties, both parties underscored the need to strengthen cooperation in addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
The Italian Prime Minister commended Egypt's efforts, which have led to no boats carrying illegal immigrants departing from the Egyptian coast since 2016, El-Shennawy added. (end)
