CAIRO, March 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said he reached a consensus with Palestinian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Mustafa on the security arrangements and the future governance in Gaza Strip.
Today's discussions focused on the plan for the post-war reconstruction and the stages of recovery in Gaza, he said at a joint press conference with his guest after their meeting on Saturday.
"The blueprint of the plan will be tabled to the preparatory ministerial meeting, due in Cairo tomorrow, Monday, as a prelude to final endorsement by the Arab Summit.
"The multi-stage plan includes cleaning debris, removal of unexploded munitions, measures for early recovery, and building temporary houses for the Palestinian residents pending completion of the reconstruction," Abdelatty disclosed.
He noted that the plan envisages effective participation by the UN organizations, including the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and the World Bank as well as other donors.
The discussions also covered the grinding crisis in Gaza, the suffering of more than two million Palestinians there, and the need of holding the fragile ceasefire and full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, he added.
Both sides also discussed the planned transitional administration which run Gaza affairs for six months and the efforts to enable the Palestinian National Authority to take full charge of Gaza affairs and restore the national unity between the Strip and the West Bank.
On his part, the Palestinian Prime Minister said he discussed with senior Egyptian officials dealt with the preparations for the Emergency Arab Summit and the ministerial conference on Gaza reconstruction.
He thanked the Arab countries for responding to the call for holding the coming meetings and showing solidarity with the Palestinian people under the current hardship.
Mustafa praised the reconstruction plan as viable and clear-cut, adding that it will ensure a better life for the Palestinian people.
He urged the international donors and the Arab countries to back the plan and save the lives of nearly 1.25 million Palestinians displaced by the recent war in Gaza. (pickup previous)
