CAIRO, March 2 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Dr. Bader Abdelaati stressed, Sunday, the necessity of reaching a permanent and just political solution to the Palestinian case, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, as this is the only path to achieving peace in the region.
This came during a political consultation session held by Minister Abdeaati with the European Union Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration in a statement.
The consultations witnessed an exchange of views on the situation in the Gaza Strip, where minister Abdelaati informed the European official of Egypt's efforts aimed at ensuring the consolidation and sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the plan being formulated for reconstruction in the strip, the statement added.
The minister also touched on the determinants of the Egyptian position on the developments in Syria, stressing Egypt's position in support of the Syrian state and respect for its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity.
On Lebanon, he pointed out Egypt's welcome to the Lebanese government obtaining the confidence of the members of the House of Representatives, which is an important step to inaugurate a new phase that contributes to achieving security and stability in Lebanon and the aspirations of the Lebanese people.
The consultations also touched upon the situation in Sudan, where the Egyptian minister affirmed his country's full support for the Sudanese people in light of the fraternal relations and historical ties between the two countries. (end) asm.aa
