VIENNA, March 3 (KUNA) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors began its quarterly meeting on Monday at the agency's headquarters in Vienna, and the session will address a number of key nuclear issues, Iran's nuclear program, and global nuclear facility security.
During the five-day meeting, the Board will discuss ongoing verification and monitoring activities in Iran under UN Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015), as well as efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran.
The board will also review matters related to nuclear safety and security, nuclear technological developments for 2025, and nuclear programs in North Korea and Syria, focusing on the implementation of safeguards imposed by the IAEA on member states.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi is scheduled to deliver two reports on Iran, one report will address Iran's compliance under the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), while the other will cover monitoring and verification activities in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
It will be a closed-session meeting with other topics to be discussed, including Ukraine's nuclear situation, guarantees for nuclear material transfers under the AUKUS agreement, and issues related to sovereign equality among member states.
Grossi is also expected to hold a press conference on March 3 to address media inquiries, particularly regarding the future of cooperation between the IAEA and Iran amid ongoing concerns about Iran's nuclear program.
In his latest report, Grossi expressed deep concern over Iran's failure to provide credible technical explanations regarding uranium particles found at undeclared sites, emphasizing the importance of Iran's commitment to ensuring the peaceful nature of its nuclear program. (end) amq.dss
