KUWAIT, March 3 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior and in cooperation with the General Department of Drug Control in Qatar thwart a major smuggling attempt of a huge shipment of psychotropic drugs (Captagon), said the ministry Monday.
In a press release, the General Department of Security Relations and Media at the Ministry of Interior stated that the details of the incident go back to secret information received indicating the existence of a criminal network active in smuggling large quantities of Captagon from a European country to the Gulf region, where it was confirmed that Kuwait was the targeted destination.
Based on the investigation, it became clear that the shipment would be smuggled via airfreight, and immediate coordination was made with the General Administration of Customs - Search and Investigation Department.
It pointed out that a Syrian national was arrested when he was about to receive the shipment.
It also noted that the seized quantity was inventoried and it turned out to be approximately 75,000 Captagon pills. The suspect and the confiscated items were referred to the competent authorities to take the necessary legal measures.
The Ministry of Interior appreciated the effective role played by the Qatari security authorities in this operation, praising the close security cooperation between the two countries. (end)
