GENEVA, March 3 (KUNA) -- The Permanent Mission of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations Office in Geneva urged the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) to adopt a robust and decisive stance against the "flagrant human rights violations" being committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in Palestine.
On behalf of the mission, Counsellor Nasser Al-Ramzi expressed profound concern over the impacts of the Israeli decision to block the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza Strip and worsening situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Addressing a debate on a comprehensive report by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to the 58th HRC session on Monday, he stressed the need of effective measures and pressures to halt the Israeli violations and prepare the ground for establishing independent state of Palestine within the borders of June 4, 1967, as per the relevant UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative.
On Sudan, the Kuwaiti diplomat highlighted the need of respect for the sovereignty and territorial unity of the Arab country and helping the belligerent parties reach a peaceful solution.
Counsellor Al-Ramzi called for scaling up the relief effort for the Sudanese people.
Regarding Syria, he underscored the importance of protecting its territorial safety, stability and state institutions, and lifting the international sanction imposed during the era of the toppled regime.
He denounced all forms of hate speech and xenophobic actions, including the incidents of burning the holy Quran.
He renewed Kuwait support to the role of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in strengthening the protection of human rights and civil liberties, and countering the politicization of humanitarian issues or applying double standards while dealing with them. (end)
