Sports City and Central Market in southern Khartoum hit by Sudanese army airstrikes on October 12, 2024

October 12, 2024 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese army has made significant advances in central and southern Khartoum, military sources said on Saturday, coinciding with a breakthrough near the Signal Corps base in Khartoum North. Since launching a major offensive on Sept. 26, the army has regained control of several Khartoum, Khartoum North, and Sennar locations, effectively isolating Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters in these areas. “Fierce clashes erupted between the army and the RSF in the Al-Maqrin area of central Khartoum,” the sources said. They said the army advanced in Al-Maqrin, reaching the Friendship Hall and Corinthia Hotel under artillery shelling and air support. The sources also reported that the Armoured Corps has deployed in large parts of Al-Lamab, Al-Rumaila, and Al-Hamadab neighbourhoods in southern Khartoum, where heavy weapons clashes occurred. On Friday, the Armored Corps expanded its presence in Al-Lamab, approaching the fortified RSF position at the Al-Rawad towers, which it targeted with artillery and snipers.
