November 14, 2024 (WAD MADANI) – At least 14 civilians were killed and dozens wounded on Thursday in an attack by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a town south of Al Jazirah state, the latest violence in a conflict that erupted last month. The RSF has been carrying out attacks in eastern Al Jazirah since October 21, when its commander in the area, Abu Aqla Keikal, defected to the Sudanese army. The attacks have killed dozens of civilians and forced thousands to flee their homes, seeking refuge in eastern Sudan and River Nile state in the north. “The RSF militia attacked the village of Al-Tomsa, south of Al Jazirah, with the aim of looting and plundering, killing 14 citizens and injuring 16 others,” the Al Jazirah Conference said in a statement seen by Sudan Tribune. Among those killed was a three-year-old child, who was snatched from his mother by RSF members and thrown into a water tank, the statement said. The RSF is also besieging the town of Al-Hilaliya, about 70 km (43 miles) northeast of Wad Madani, where more than 400 people have been killed.
