February 1, 2025 (TAMBOOL) – The Sudanese army said on Saturday it had recaptured three key cities in Al Jazirah state, including Tambool, Rufa’a and Al-Hasahisa, from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The army’s recapture of the cities comes after they were briefly held by the “Shield of Sudan” forces, a paramilitary group allied with the army, in January. “The movement and Shield of Sudan forces have managed to liberate Rufa’a and Al-Hasahisa,” Brigadier Abadi Al-Tahir, a commander in the Sudanese army, said in a televised statement. He vowed to pursue the RSF “to the last location in Sudan.” “I said previously that the signs of the RSF militia’s collapse had begun, and now I say that it has completely collapsed,” he added. Abu Aqla Kikel, commander of the Shield of Sudan forces, also confirmed the recapture of the cities. Resistance committees in Al-Hasahisa reported that the army and allied militia had also taken control of areas around the city.
