February 2, 2025 (EL FASHER/NYALA) – A surge in fighting in Sudan’s Darfur region has left at least 248 people dead and wounded, the Sudanese Doctors’ Syndicate said on Sunday, as airstrikes and ground attacks intensified in the cities of El Fasher and Nyala. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have escalated attacks on El Fasher, the last major urban stronghold of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in Darfur, since May 10. Seventy-five people were killed in El Fasher on Saturday, with 124 injured after airstrikes hit a transport hub and areas of Kutum and Shangli Tobai, according to Adiba Ibrahim El Sayed, a member of the Doctors’ Syndicate’s Omdurman branch. RSF shelling of the Abu Shouk camp also killed 11 and wounded 18, she said, causing a mass displacement of residents now facing hunger and exposure. In Nyala, 13 people were killed and 36 wounded on Saturday in airstrikes and ground attacks, El Sayed added. She said the actual death toll was likely higher due to ongoing fighting and difficulties in documenting casualties.
