February 9, 2025 (PORT SUDAN) – Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Youssif will begin an official visit to Moscow on Monday at the invitation of his Russian counterpart, Sergei Lavrov. Sudan is encouraging Russian companies to invest in its gold, oil, gas, and electricity sectors. Relations between the two countries are strengthening amid Moscow’s support for the Sudanese government. “Foreign Minister Ali Youssif will begin a three-day official visit to Moscow tomorrow, Monday, at the invitation of Sergei Lavrov,” Mohamed al-Ghazali, Sudan’s ambassador to Russia, told reporters. He said Youssif will hold official talks with Lavrov to discuss supporting and developing bilateral political, economic, and cultural relations. He added that regional and international issues of mutual concern would also be discussed. Al-Ghazali stated that the Sudanese foreign minister would meet with the Russian head of the Joint Ministerial Committee, Minister of Natural Resources Alexander Kozlov, and Russian officials and members of the Duma (parliament). He noted that Youssif will brief Russian officials and media outlets on developments in Sudan, highlighting recent military gains, and discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them.
